Prime Minister Bill English paid a visit to the park on March 24th 2017 to learn more about the park’s kiwi conservation work. He got to cradle a kiwi chick named Empy, who hatched 24 days earlier in the Maungataniwha Native Forest. The PM is a sheep farmer from Dipton, but he looked right at home as he held Empy.

During Bill's visit he also got to see a kiwi that had just hatched, making it an extra special occasion! The park is now the leading kiwi hatchery in New Zealand and has hatched 1650 eggs at its Kiwi Encounter facility.
