Kauri

The kauri tree, Agathis australis, is New Zealand's largest and most famous native tree.

They prefer the warmer climates north from about Te Puke in the Bay of Plenty. A number of ancient kauri trees can be found in Northland including Tane Mahuta (‘Lord of the Forest’) and Te Matua Ngahere who are estimated to be between 1200 and 1500 years old.
