Conservation in action ...

We believe that every individual can make a difference by helping conserve resources and this is achieved through education. Visiting Rainbow Springs lets people learn more about our unique surrounding in Aotearoa and this section of our website is an extension of our belief in Conservation.

The proceeds from your entrance ticket go directly towards continuing our conservation work and one of our major conservation projects you may of heard about is Rainbow Spring's very own Kiwi Encounter

Eggs are brought to us from the wild by staff and field workers for the Department of Conservation and are hatched on site at Kiwi Encounter. When they have hatched, and the kiwi are large enough (1kg) to protect themselves from predators, they are released back into the wild to the area where they came from. At midway through the 2009/10 breeding season over 750 chicks have been released back into the wild. Learn more at Kiwi Encounter.

We have put together this educational resource in the hope that this will give you an insight into our beautiful country, its natural beauty and just how fragile our ecosystem is. It is intended to provide you with links, helping reduce your footprint on this earth and provide you with help in ensuring we leave behind a planet in a better condition than we found it.
