Why did the lizard and the fish go on a diet? Because they weighed to much for their scales. Get it? They both have scales instead of fantastic feathers like I have.
Ok, what about this one - What do you call a lizard that can sing and rhyme? A rap-tile. I know that one's a bit lame but hey, there aren't too many funny things about lizards or fish, except the way that they look.
Anyway, in case you haven't noticed I'm the funny one round here, and easily the most talented, as I can pull some mean tricks, keep the crowds guessing with my amazing skills and ... well, just generally 'cause I'm the coolest thing in this park, even in Rotorua.
But in case you hadn't noticed, (you must live in a cave or something), I'm a Kea. We are known as a mountain parrot and we are the only member of parrot species to live in alpine regions. It is thought we came from Australia 20 or so million years ago and found a nice home up in the mountains and we are omnivorous with a diet consisting mainly of roots, leaves, berries, nectar and insects. Although being omnivores (meat and vege eaters), we have been known to eat pretty much anything. And in the past our taste for lamb and/or sheep landed us in trouble with farmers who wiped out nearly 150,000 a hundred years, until 1970 when we were protected as they found out there was only about 5000 of us left. And there's still only about that many left today.
But that's all behind us now, we don't mind humans as they increasingly come up into our part of the world to go skiing and hiking and bring nice food for us to eat. Only they didn't know they brought it for us and we have been known to get into trouble for ripping apart the odd backpack, tent, car, camper-van ... ahem ... anyway, moving right along.
We can solve logical puzzles, such as pushing and pulling things in a certain order to get to food, and we are renown for our team work and we will work together to achieve a certain objective. We live for about 15 years and are easily the smartest bird in the world. Definitely smarter than fish or tuatara (I like to call him a lizard because he hates that).
So I'll pop up and tell you some really interesting jokes throughout the information pages on this site. Gotta fly now (get it?) I really do have to fly now.
