Moa

Our Moa don’t move much (hard when you are made of concrete) but when the first Maori arrived in New Zealand around 1000 years ago, the moa was plentiful and widespread.

Being large, flightless and generally slow moving they were relatively easy to capture and quickly became a major food source. After 500 years moa became scarce and within 600 years they were extinct.
