Tui

The tui feeds on nectar with a long, brush like tongue.

The endemic tui ranks with the bellbird as one of NZ’s loveliest song birds, both issuing pure bell-like notes almost indistinguishable from each other. It is the first bird to sing in the morning and the last to finish at night. Common in most native forests, it is also frequently seen in urban areas especially where flowering ornamental trees are to be found.
