Kakariki
Once very common in all their areas of habitation, humans came to New Zealand and brought with them predatory mammals.
Kakariki are at home in forest and scrub, usually in coastal areas and they live in permanent pairs, often joining with other pairs and families to form flocks during the winter. They eat a variety of plant seeds, berries, buds, shoots, nectar and flowers, as well as invertebrates.
